Bin Laden says U.S. has no proof he's behind
attacks
12/26/2001
Washington (dpa) - In a videotape excerpt screened by the pan- Arabic cable news
channel al-Jazeera, suspected terrorist mastermind ^Osama bin Laden says that the United
States has no proof that he or ^al- Qaeda are behind the September 11 attacks, a report said Wednesday.
He also charges that the U.S. attacks on Afghanistan are proof that Americans are jealous of
the Islamic world and hate Moslems, according to U.S. television channel NBC and cable
network CNN.
Bin Laden said the 30-minute tape was recorded on December 11, three months after the
strikes against New York and Washington, but NBC said it had no way of verifying the date.
The Saudi exile reportedly also charges that U.S. forces had destroyed a mosque, killing 150
people, according to the NBC report.
The fate of bin Laden has been uncertain since U.S.-backed Afghan troops have overrun the
Tora Bora mountain area in eastern Afghanistan, which had been the last stronghold of the
Taliban and al-Qaeda network in the country. dpa fz mm
