CIA puzzled by Olympic radio messages 02/12/2002 Salt Lake City (dpa) - The CIA must feel puzzled by some strange communications after revelations on Tuesday that coaches and other training staff used their frequencies for radio messages at several Olympic venues. Citing unnamed sources, the German National Olympic Committee said that there were some serious radio disturbances during the first days of Olympic competition. The NOC said that the frequencies had not been co-ordinated before the Games. The NOC said that the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) ;could not make a lot of sense of the instructions for obvious reasons''. Radio messages are mainly used at alpine and cross-country ski events as well as the biathlon where the coaches are spread all over the course. The CIA cannot have been happy with the incidents as the Olympics are the scene of unprecedented security measures in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the U.S. |
