LET'S GO SHOPPING: LAURA AND HILLARY STRIKE 'FRIENDSHIP': SMILES, LAUGHTER, WHISPERS AT JOINT APPEARANCE
First it was The Odd Couple of President Bush and Sen. Ted Kennedy [who arrived at his recent birthday over the weekend wearing green Peter Pan tights, according to ROLL CALL's guru Ed Henry] working together and striking an unexpected friendship which crossed deep political divides.
Now comes a new power-duo that has Washington insiders scratching heads: Rivals First Lady Laura Bush and former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton have vowed to strike a friendship, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned!
"Come back to the White House for lunch!" current First Lady Laura Bush said to Clinton during a joint appearance on Tuesday at an Elementary School in Washington. "Let's go shopping," the former First Lady offered back.
"The two have dropped any leftover pain from the 2000 election," said an insider close to Bush. "I think this is going to be the beginning of a real and meaningful friendship!"
Bush and Clinton smiled, joked and whispered throughtout the gathering. At one point, Mrs. Clinton inquired about Mrs. Bush's wedding wing.
"It's so beautiful, so simple" Clinton said.
Bush asked Clinton about her suit.
"Red looks very good on you, brings out your eyes," Bush smiled.
The ladies promised to phone each in the coming weeks, said the well-placed insider.
"I didn't know she was so warm, so much fun!" First Lady Bush whispered to an attendee.
The event marked their first joint appearance since Mrs. Bush's husband succeeded Mrs. Clinton's.
Each publicly lauded the other's efforts in improving education during their appearance at the school.
