ANGRY AARON DECLARES IN MEMO: I AM THE FACE OF CNN!
**Exclusive**
Move over, Wolf. Save it for another day, Larry. It's not you, Judy. Don't be blue, Lou.
Angry CNN anchor Aaron Brown declared in a memo to bosses last week: "I am the face of CNN!"
The claim came after news directors forced Brown to take breaking news of the Robert Blake arrest -- coverage Brown labeled overplayed.
"There is news to report on the Middle East. There's been an awful train derailment in Florida, but the Blake case is breaking...," Brown told viewers in frustrated tones. "The program we planned, which deals with a number of important environmental issues, is going to wait for another day."
A behind-the-screens struggle between Brown and management centers on control over news coverage, sources familiar with the situation reveal.
A high level meeting over the deepening Brown resentment was convened last week at CNN, according to sources.
"Aaron wants the final word on what is covered during his hour," whispers a network insider. "That's not how it works here, how it's going to work, how it's ever worked."
"News comes first, and Atlanta [CNN headquarters] decides what is news, not our commentator in New York."
Officially, a CNN spokeswoman tells the DRUDGE REPORT: "Aaron Brown is neither angry, nor the author of any memo claiming to be the face of CNN. To the contrary, he and CNN management are quite happy that NewsNight has been topping all cable news programs in its time slot - including On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."
Brown, in the blistering memo, sources say, complained to CNN's general manager about his treatment at the struggling all-news network.
Now, both Jamie Kellner, chairman and CEO of CNN parent TBS, and Garth Ancier, executive VP, programming, are directly involved in the Brown situation, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
In the past, Ancier has defended Brown's rebellion, calling the host "quirky".
On Brown's charge that he is The Face of CNN, a top network source noted: "I hate to be the one to break the news to Mr. Brown, but has he looked in the mirror lately?"
