Warren Buffett: Nuke Attack in USA 'Virtual Certainty'
Sun May 05 2002 22:11:15 ET
A nuclear terrorist attack is a virtual
certainty in America, but it is impossible to predict when it would happen, billionaire investor Warren Buffett
said Sunday, according to ASSOCIATED PRESS reports.
Envy and dislike of the United States has fueled a rage against the country even as the ability to build a
nuclear device has spread, Buffett said at a 2 1/2 hour news conference held as part of Berkshire Hathaway
Inc.'s annual meeting.
"We're going to have something in the way of a major nuclear event in this country," Buffett said.
"It will happen," he said. "Whether it will happen in 10 years or 10 minutes, or 50 years...it's virtually a
certainty."
Washington and New York would be the top two targets because terrorists want to traumatize the country or
kill as many people as possible, Buffett said.
Chemical or biological attacks are similarly high risks, Buffett said.
