RNC CHAIR AGREES TO MEET WITH SHARPTON FRIDAY ABOUT LOTT
Wed Dec 11 2002 12:14:19 ET
Letter from RNC Chairman Marc Racicot to Revernd Al Sharpton:
Dear Reverend Sharpton:
I undersand that you called my office and expressed a desire to meet
with me to discuss a recent remark made by Senate Majority Leader
Trent Lott. Although I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you about
any issue of concern or matter of mutual interest, my travel schedule
for the next three days is very challenging and will make it difficult
to be arrange a meeting expeditiously. As a result, I thought I would
send this message because I don't want to allow this important matter
to remain unaddressed.
In reference to the Senator Lott's remark, he has, as you know,
extended his regret and sincere apology. That, I believe, was the
proper course to follow.
Let me know if you would still like to meet and when your schedule
would allow us to do so. I know that on Friday of this week there are
some options available to meet here in Washington, D.C.
