TURNER COMPARES HIS EMPIRE COLLAPSE TO WORLD TRADE TOWERS
AOLTIMEWARNER vice chairman Ted Turner has opened his mouth again, this time on Wednesday at a news conference in New York City where he compared the fall of his business empire to the collapse of the World Trade Center.
"I went from no money to a pile of money, just as big as the
World Trade Center. Then -- just like the World Trade Center -- poof, it was
gone. Overnight."
Turner laughed aloud as he made the comparison.
Turner also made extensive comments on the War on Terror, praising the Bush Administration for including the United Nations in the process:
"To its everlasting credit, the Bush administration has realized how important the United Nations is to the war on terrorism. We can't fight the war on terrorism by ourselves. No matter what happens anywhere, having the U.N. involved helps a lot."
Turner also took a stab at the roots of terrorism:
"There's a lot of despair out there. Despair and poverty... these breed anger. And, I think, that's one of the reasons terrorism exists. There's so much frustration, anger, and despair.
"In the Arab view, America doesn't do enough to help them and that's why they're so angry at it," he said. "The battle against terrorism is a battle against poverty and injustice. People are willing to die when they don't have anything to live for."
Ted Turner was speaking at the event to celebrate the five year anniversary of his $1 billion pledge to support the United Nations Foundation.
