TED TURNER DOCUMENTARY: HOW TO AVOID ARMAGEDDON
The inaugural production of Ted Turner's documentary company explores: How to stop "The End of the World!"
"Avoiding Armageddon" examines the threats posed by nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.
The four-part series, which is produced by Ted Turner Documentaries and presented by Washington public television station WETA, will air on PBS this spring, reports Jill Vejnoska in Monday runs of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION.

"Our goal is to evoke a national debate about weapons of mass destruction," Turner said in a statement. "We want every citizen to know the facts, since this is one of the most important issues to face our world."
"I had one meeting with Ted, where he gave me, really, two pieces of editorial direction," said Executive Producer Christopher Koch. "The first was, 'international, international, international,' and the second was, 'don't dumb it down.' "
The team traveled to 18 countries and interviewed everyone from Palestinian youth to military, security and medical experts. The backing of Ted Turner Documentaries was crucial, Koch said.
Asks Vejnoska: But with Turner having made his name in cable, why air "Avoiding Armageddon" on public television?
"PBS offered us a much broader audience than any cable channel could," said one producer. "PBS is in every household (with television) in America. Very few cable channels are."
