Washington (dpa) - The White House on Thursday dismissed as ;false rumour'' a report that U.S. President George Bush would announce the arrest of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden at a rare press conference later in the evening.
;I think it's just a rumour,'' said a White House spokesman. The White House made a surprise announcement earlier in the day that Bush would give a rare news conference at 8 p.m. (0100 GMT), which prompted speculation about the reason for the press event.
The White House emphasized however that the president would not release any important new facts. At the center of discussions will be the U.N. Security Council's meeting on Friday, where the newest report from arms inspector Hans Blix is to be delivered, the White House indicated earlier.
