A high of 95 in Nebraska in the middle of October?
That's what
the National Weather Service is predicting for Lexington on Sunday.
Record highs in the mid-80s to 90 prevailed over much of Nebraska on Saturday as people enjoyed what could be the last really hot weekend of the year.
The mercury hit 90 at Columbus, Holdrege, Kearney, McCook and York. It hit 89 at Grand Island and Hastings, setting records for the date in those cities.
The weather service predicted highs in the 80s and mid-90s on Sunday, but next weekend probably will be cooler, with temperatures in the lower 60s and upper 50s, said Dennis Phillips, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in North Platte.
By November, temperatures in Nebraska are generally in the 30s, 40s and 50s, according to information from the weather service.
