 Congress office building evacuated with gunman on loose Thurs Oct 30 2003 13:55:11 ET Washington (dpa) - A Congressional office building was evacuated on Thursday after a gunman slipped through security controls and disappeared into the hallways, media reports said. Security officials spotted the gun in the man's backpack as it passed through the x-ray machine, but the man grabbed the bag and disappeared into the innards of the building before he could be apprehended, CNN reported. A SWAT team was conducting a room-to-room search of the building, and tunnels were sealed that connect the Cannon building to other structures on Capitol Hill, CNN said. |
