FOR THE YEAR, CBS PLACES SECOND, ABC IS THIRD AND FOX IS FOURTH
According to Nielsen Media Research data, "Meet the Press with Tim Russert"
was the dominant Sunday morning public affairs program, winning the calendar
year 2003 in all categories. For the year, "Meet the Press" averaged 4.314
million viewers each Sunday, 57% more than second place CBS "Face the
Nation's" 2.754 million, 68% more than third place ABC "This Week with
George Stephanopoulos'" 2.565 million, and 158% more than fourth place FOX
"News Sunday's" 1.669 million. This represents the NBC program's best
delivery ever in total viewers (since at least the start of people meters in
1987).
For the year in homes, "Meet the Press" posted a 3.3 rating and a 10 share.
CBS placed second in homes as well with a 2.1/6, ABC was third with a 2.0/6
and FOX was fourth with a 1.2/4.
Among the key demographics women, men and adults 25-54, the
Russert-moderated public affairs broadcast was No. 1 across the board.
Specifically among the key demographic adults 25-54, "Meet the Press" had a
1.4 rating, CBS had a 0.9, ABC a 0.8 and FOX a 0.6 rating. This also
represents "Meet the Press'" best delivery ever among adults 25-54 (since at
least the start of people meters in 1987).
