Thu Feb 05 2004 09:44:18 ET
For a few brief quarter-hours, the nation's original all-news channel CNN matched and passed audience ratings of America's #1 FOXNEWS, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
Coverage of Tuesday evening's South Carolina, Missouri and other Dem primary races gave CNN 1,829,000 viewers during the 9 PM hour on the East Coast, squeaking past FOXNEWS's 1,714,000. Both nets pulled a 1.6 rating, NIELSEN reports.
Even though FOX still led the way in all demos and total prime hours Tuesday night [FNC averaged 1.44 million viewers in
primetime, compared with 1.38 million for CNN and 606,000 for MSNBC], CNN executives took the results as a sign from the ratings heavens.
"The race on the ballot box is not the only race in town, we've got our eyes on being the nation's most watched news network!" declared a top CNN source from Atlanta.
