MCAULIFFE: Bush Should Turn Over His Intelligence Briefing Cliffs Notes
Wed Jul 14 2004 13:50:51 ET
Washington, D.C. -In response to recent news reports of George W. Bush's refusal to turn over a one page summary from the CIA of pre-war intelligence in Iraq, Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe issued this statement:
"The Bush administration went to the Supreme Court to keep the details of his secret energy task force secret.
"For months, he withheld requested documents from the bipartisan 9/11 commission.
"For years, he has steadfastly rebuffed repeated requests to release his military records and prove he actually served.
"And now Bush is refusing to provide Congress the intelligence summary he reviewed when deciding whether or not to set this nation on a course for war - a simplified, one-page summary that may be the only thing Bush read and that may have excluded any warnings about faulty intelligence.
"Bush should stop hiding behind executive privilege and release the Cliffs Notes version of his intelligence briefing. It may explain to this nation why, despite repeated warnings from the intelligence community, this President stubbornly went forward with his plans for war."
