Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry's campaign raised 36.5 million dollars in June, nearly three times the sum netted by Republican rival George W. Bush, according to statements by both camps Tuesday.
A statement by the Kerry campaign said that June was the fourth consecutive month in which the Democrats had outpaced the Republicans in fundraising and the fourth month that their figure had topped 30 million dollars.
The Kerry camp said it had picked up 99.2 million dollars for the second quarter of 2004, setting a record for a presidential challenger.
Overall, the campaign has raised 185 million dollars and will report 36 million dollars cash on hand as of June 30.
The 36.5 million dollars reported by the Democrats in June fundraising contrasted with the 13.1 million dollars taken in by the Bush campaign over the same period.
The Republican re-election drive has taken in a total of 226.4 million dollars and has 64.3 million dollars in cash on hand, a statement said.
