 Support The DrudgeReport; Visit Our Advertisers  BLOOMBERG--Bush should NOT go to Ground Zero Sun Aug 29 2004 10:29:41 ET New York � When asked whether he has ever been to a political convention, Mayor Michael Bloomberg tells TIME�s Amanda Ripley, �No, I�ve never been. It will be fun. This will be the only political convention I�ll ever speak at. Although, actually it might not be. Assuming I get re-elected, I will try very hard to get both Republican and Democratic conventions in four years. So maybe I�ll have another chance.� When asked his opinion on whether President Bush should visit Ground Zero, Bloomberg responds, �I think that at this point it has become so politicized that he would be criticized more for going than not going. It�s a shame that it�s gotten down to that, because normally I would give you an answer, �Everybody should be able to go every place.� I will visit Ground Zero next on 9/11 when I will be part of the annual ceremonies remembering 2,800 people who died.� On his plans for the protestors during convention week, Bloomberg replies, �We�re not going to have any barbed wire, and we plan to grant people the right to protest right next to [Madison Square] Garden.� Bloomberg says that the smoking ban issue is �long gone� and says people �wave the cigarette at you in a good-natured way.� And he has only gotten yelled at once in three years on the subway, �As I got off and the doors were closing, this guy yelled, �Fix the Knicks!�� Developing... |
