BUSH NOMINATES CLINTON NEMESIS TO HOMELAND
A former federal prosecutor who played a prominent role in the Senate's Whitewater investigation was picked by President Bush to head Homeland Security chief, the White House said Tuesday.
Michael Chertoff, a former U.S. attorney in New Jersey, was chief Republican counsel to a Senate committee delving into former President Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton's Arkansas business dealings.
Mrs. Clinton, now a senator representing New York, will be among those considering Chertoff's nomination, which must be confirmed by the Senate.
Chertoff headed the Justice Department's criminal division from 2001 to 2003, where he played a central role in the nation's legal response to the Sept. 11 attacks.
