SHOW MUST GO ON: LEADING LADY FIGHTS CANCER; SET FOR OPENING NIGHT Fri Nov 11 2005 18:49:10 ET In a town full of show-must-go-on legends, Maria Friedman, the leading lady of the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, "The Woman in White," is one for the books, the NEW YORK TIMES plans to front on Saturday. With a $12 million musical riding on her shoulders and the show just days away from its opening night, Friedman 47, has been diagnosed with cancer and has undergone surgery to remove a marble-sized lump in her left breast. On Thursday night, bruised, bandaged and with a doctor waiting in the wings, she sang and danced for nearly three hours, bringing some of her cast and crewmates to tears. MORE... |
